This is for Karen

At CHA this summer, Karen Burniston, Sizzix pop-up genius, gave me one of her latest dies, the Pop-Up Bat. I am ashamed to say that it sat on my shelf for some time. I decided it was time to see what these pop-up dies were all about. Surprise, surprise... they are FUN! The directions were super easy and it came together quickly. I love how my little bat fits perfectly in the ScoreBoard Memo Holder. Pop-up books were my favorite growing up. Wouldn't this be a fun card to send to a little kid?
I just followed the directions for creating the bat- cut it from black cardstock and assembled as directed. Then I cut a memo holder from orange black core matboard. I love this matboard because both sides of the board are already colored. It just takes a minute to run an inkpad along the edges, if you want them distressed. Some days I like to leave everything clean- it depends on my mood :-)

The bat was taped into the fold of the memo holder, then I added some bat stickers I had on hand. A string was drawn for the spider to hang on and I did ink the edges of the folder in black. On the front, I printed "beware" on the computer and added that to the memo holder cover. The folder is held closed by a hair elastic and some bright buttons by Blumenthal Lansing. They have a cool new site, by the way, that you might want to check out.

Better get this done soon and in the mail- Halloween is just a week away!

Terroriffic Tuesday #3

Here's a bookmark made from my favorite material. This was especially fun to work with because it is a color core matboard. If you did a bevel cut, instead of the regular white core, you would have orange. Love this black and orange combo! I used some sheet music to die cut an H for Halloween, added a rub-on pumpkin up top and wrote my message in a glittery copper metallic pen by Sakura. I tied 2 Halloween-y buttons to ribbon and that was it. Quick and fun gift idea...

Flower card

Working on piles of stuff! Lots of projects soon to be revealed but in the meantime, here's a card I made for my friend Val. She is such fun and always up for a good time. This pinky-orangish color reminds me of her so I decided to make her a monochromatic birthday card with shades of coral. The flowers were created from one paint chip and the Sizzix 3D Flower by Beth Reames. Beth hit it out of the park with this die! Love it...
Head on over to FaveCrafts blog for an interesting glimpse of where designers see their inspiration coming from and why they create. Thanks Mom, for showing all of your girls how it's done- creating in the midst of chaos! It has served us well :-) Also on FaveCrafts, a review of my book Matboard Magic! Click here to read. Leave a comment for a chance to win it!

Do I detect a nip in the air? Finally! We have a wedding this weekend at a plantation and I am trying to figure out what to wear... something with a jacket I'm thinking... I'll take pictures. This is a very special wedding. My friend Paula Ann's daughter is getting married. I plan to take lots of notes because in April, we'll be having my daughter Jessica's.

Have a great week everyone!

Terroriffic Tuesday #2

Time for another Halloween project! This fun necklace was made from a piece of black matboard cut from the Sizzix Scalloped Circle die. I added some silver Stickles to write the word "Boo" and filled the middles of the letters with orange paint. I used my Crop-a-dile to punch holes at the bottom of the pendant and glued on a scalloped book page at the bottom which was inked with orange. A tiny white ghost went on top of the triangle. I added an orange eyelet and a jump ring to attach the pendant to the chain. So spooky!

Farewell, flip-flops!

Until a few days ago, it was still quite warm here in Northern Virginia. This weekend was rainy, then cool. Tonight I put the blanket on the bed. Next item of business will be switching out summer clothes for winter. That means it's officially fall and thoughts turn to Halloween. Last year I participated in Alexa Westerfield's Terroriffic Tuesday's, where she gathers her creative buddies and posts a bunch of Halloween projects every Tuesday. I don't want to say this too loud but Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I think all those years of getting 4 kids in costumes just wore me out. But nevertheless, here I am with a project!
This is a somewhat spooky card holder which I made using one of my Sizzix ScoreBoard dies, the Notebook Pocket, and cutting it from black matboard. The ghost and letters are other Sizzix dies, designed by my friend Brenda Pinnick. I love the expression on the ghost's face :-) I found this swirly thin papery material in my stash and can't remember where I got it but it was white. I sprayed it with Clearsnap's Smooch Spritz in purple, green and gold, mixing them together. After towelling off the excess, I sprayed spray adhesive on the back and adhered it to my Notebook Pocket. After inking around the edges in black, I adhered "Eek" and bumped up the little ghost with pop dots. I finished it off with some rust ribbon as a handle and pompom trim. After I adhered the trim, I realized the orange was a little too bright (actually I smudged some black ink on by mistake first). Then I took my black Copic marker and kind of scribbled over the pompoms and I do like the more subtle look. Another happy accident!

The card was one of a batch I found while cleaning. I made them from some fun primitive (and somewhat creepy) paper I found a while ago. Then I printed simple Hallween saying on vellum and adhered them to the front. The card bases were all done in muted fall colors. Stop by next week for another project!

It's been a while since I asked: Have you joined The Hive yet? It's like Facebook for crafters. Lots of cool ideas, challenges and ways to get involved and interact with some cool peeps! Click here to join and don't forget to check out the Sizzix group.

Stay warm!
